Michael's founding handbook gave governance and accountability a central place. It called for independent board oversight, clear financial reporting, conflicts-of-interest safeguards, documented decisions, and separate accounting for the Foundation and any related commercial entity. It also identified mentor screening, reporting protocols, safe communication practices, and athlete protection as essentials for a healthy formation environment.
The purpose of these safeguards is straightforward: donors should know which entity receives their gift, athletes should be cared for safely, and mission decisions should remain accountable. Before this site claims that a particular policy, board structure, insurance coverage, or annual filing is in place, the Foundation's current officers and records must confirm it.
